Peer Success Coaches are current students who demonstrate academic success.   Peer Success Coaches work with the eLearning Student Support Specialist and eLearning Activities Coordinator to help students identify barriers to academic success and assist them in creating action plans for overcoming those challenges.  Peer Success Coaches help the students to maximize their potential for academic success by providing Blackboard assistance, Microsoft Office and Office 365 assistance, and supporting them in gaining effective study strategies and behaviors.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Hold drop-in coaching hours to assist students on a variety of academic topics including but not limited to:
    • Technology Skills
    • Blackboard
    • Microsoft Office and Office 365
    • Time Management
    • Organization
    • Note-taking
    • Reading Strategies
    • Study Skills
    • Memorization
    • Exam Preparation & Test Taking Strategies
    • Motivation & Attitude
    • Goal Setting
    • Communicating with Professors
    • Academic Resources & Asking for Help
  • Lead small group workshops for new and returning students in the eLearning Student Lab(s) on a variety of academic topics (see above list)
  • Create supplemental materials to be used in group workshops and individual sessions to aid in student learning and skill development
  • Assist eLearning Student Support Specialist in managing the social media for Title III by sharing study tips, study strategies, and/or other success suggestions weekly to aid students

 

Qualifications:

  • Effective communication skills
  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Working knowledge of effective academic skills
  • Must be willing and available to attend scheduled trainings regarding FERPA compliance and other trainings as necessary
  • Capacity to work with students with diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to work the time promised
  • Strong study skills and successful student habits and behaviors

  • Act in a professional manner and be sensitive to and respectful of the student’s needs.
  • Be prepared and be on time.
  • Keep all information on students you work with confidential.
  • Support a compassionate and kind environment for students.

 

 

Schedule: Peer Success Coach hours have some flexibility but must take place during regular hours of operation. 

NOTE: The eLearning Lab is currently open Monday-Thursday 8am-4:30pm with the possibility of adding Friday hours
