The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement (O.D.I.C.E.) is seeking temporary part time interns  (Student Success Coach for Student Engagement & Activities).

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement (O.D.I.C.E.) is seeking a temporary part time intern (Student Success Coach for Student Engagement & Activities). The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement (O.D.I.C.E.) is committed to promoting an inclusive learning environment by enhancing college and community efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate minority students. The office serves as a resource and advocates for the Jefferson community on issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity. The office promotes the success of all students through programs, services, and community partnerships that holistically address cultural, educational, and civic growth

 

Office of Student Engagement

The Office of Student Engagement provides all students an opportunity to engage in co-curricular activities and student led organizations that support their growth and development as it relates to social & cultural awareness, leadership skills, personal development, and service to the College and the community.

15K-Jefferson Rise Together Partnership 
The 15K-Jefferson Rise Together Initiative will focus on increasing successful post-secondary enrollment, persistence and graduation for African American students who live in one of Louisville's five Zones of Hope neighborhoods (California, Newburg, Shawnee, Parkland, and Russell).

Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Create, plan, and implement fun, interactive, and informative programs/events for students on all Jefferson campuses.
  • Assist the Director of Student Engagement with the development of trademark events that establish spirit and tradition at Jefferson.
  • Successfully assess, analyze, and provide data-driven feedback for each program and event that comes out of the Office of Student Engagement.
  • Provide support to student organizations and their advisors as it relates to recruitment and retention of members.
  • Develop opportunities that create awareness around getting involved on campus (i.e. student involvement fair).
  • Establish a presence and build one-on-one relationships with students participating in the Rise Together Initiative.
  •  Schedule and execute monthly coaching appointments with Rise Together Scholars.
  • Help students develop individualized success plans that support their ability to persist and graduate by promoting self-advocacy & fostering resiliency within students.
  • Proactively build a caseload and keep data for Rise Together Scholars.
  • Utilize Starfish retention tool for scheduling meetings and keeping notes.
  • Maintain a presence in student spaces & engage with students in those spaces on campus.
  • Develop a knowledge base of college and community resources to appropriately refer students.
  • Assist students with academic and social integration into postsecondary education.
  • Help students manage & cope with non-academic barriers (housing, food insecurity, healthy relationships, etc.).  This may include triaging student emergencies and connecting students to campus & community resources.
  • Co-supervise Federal Work Study and Ready to Work student workers.

Salary:  $1,200 per month

In order to be eligible, candidates must be graduate students in a Human Services field (Psychology Social Work, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field).  Candidates must be able to dedicate 20 hours per week and commit for the entire 2020-2021 academic year (August – May). 

Candidates should also have experience and sensitivity working with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive work and learning environment in which students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive.
