Job Summary
The Financial Aid Specialist II provides financial aid, admissions, and career guidance to current students, perspective students, and parents. Additionally, the FAS provides consultation in all financial aid matters to a variety of stakeholders including students, prospective students, high school and GEAR Up counselors, faculty, staff and interested community partners, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies.
Job Duties:
1. Manage daily Financial Aid operations at the Montgomery Campus consisting of processing applications, performing corrections, and awarding aid. Stay updated on federal, state and institution policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
2. Counsel students and parents regarding all types of financial aid. Collect
and process required documentation for students and parents.
3. Connect with students via multiple communication channels to complete financial aid files.
4. Meet weekly with Business Office counterpart to review open accounts to reduce bad debt.
5. Serve as student loan coordinator for MCTC. Reconcile the loan program each semester and annually. Keep staff updated on changes in the federal student loan program and all requirements. Run query reports to monitor any issues. Adjust awards as needed. Counsel students on completing loan entrance and exit counseling and signing Master Promissory Notes.
6. Oversee the Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Usage process for students nearing the end of their Pell Grant eligibility. Manually award these students and notify them regarding remaining eligibility. Coordinate with the Director of Financial Aid on Pell POP process with other institutions as alerts are issued.
7. Conducts workshops, presentations, and orientations regarding financial aid information to a variety of students and groups. Assists with off-campus registration events and recruiting activities as needed.
8. Serve as Montgomery Campus point of contact for federal, state and local scholarship information. Post external awards.
9. Serve on committees and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent years or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
2-4 years of relevant experience.
Preferred bachelor's degree in business, accounting, management, or related field.
