Title: ELA/ESL Adult Education Instructor

Salary Range: $2,806 - $3,878 per month

Contract Term Length: 12 Months

Standard Hours: 37.5 per week

Work Location: On-Site

Job Summary

Provides contextualized academic instruction to adult education students in English Language Acquisition (ELA/ESL). Provides targeted instruction to ensure completion of program goals. Design lessons to help students develop their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and strategies.

Job Duties:

  • Provides instruction in English Language Acquisition (ELA/ESL) and Kentucky Career Readiness.
  • Plans and provides ELA instruction for eligible adults in a variety of settings.
  • Applies research-based instructional practices that incorporate the use of computers and other digital literacy.
  • Assesses and monitors learning.
  • Provides classroom management.
  • Maintains lesson plans and syllabi for each course taught.
  • Provides continuous feedback and adjusts instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Interprets appropriate placement and diagnostic tests.
  • Uses formal and informal assessment data to monitor and document student progress.
  • Participates in strategies for student retention and attempts to maintain communication with students.
  • Assesses adult education needs.
  • Meets deadlines for completing paperwork.
  • Participates in required professional development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (related field) and two years related work experience, or equivalent.
  • Post-Secondary transcripts required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • KAERS Experience.
  • Experience with distance learning educational platforms.
  • Experience working in Adult Education.
  • Experience collaborating with Adult Education team members.
  • Prior ELA/ESL experience.
  • Experience managing large ELA/ESL classes.
  • Experience with the contextualization and use of authentic materials to aid in achieving higher proficiency rating in speaking, listening, reading and writing is desired. Emphasis on daily life skills with additional focus on vocabulary acquisition and developing confidence in speaking is preferred.
