Job Summary
Gateway Community & Technical College invites applications for the Health Career Programs Coordinator for the Area Health Education Center (AHEC). This full-time staff position works with local communities, schools, hospitals, other medical facilities, and state educational and social service agencies to plan and implement health professions recruitment, education, and assistance programs and will plan and implement a variety of programs designed to inform and interest students in health careers, provide healthcare workforce educational opportunities for middle, high school, and post-secondary students, and function as a member of the AHEC team in a variety of AHEC activities.
This position is funded through a 2-year grant.

Job Duties:
• Plan and implement a variety of programs designed to inform and interest high school and grade school students in health careers; programs will include Health Career summer camps at Gateway and NKU; and assist with Boot Camps, mock interviews, and shadowing experiences for pre-med students
• Identify, coordinate and recruit students into the Scholars program; maintain didactic and experiential sections that the NC AHEC is required to do under the scope of work for the HRSA federal grant. Develop relationships with college and university personnel for the purpose of promoting AHEC Scholars
• Develop relationships with school personnel in targeted schools for the purpose of facilitating health career programming, especially in rural and urban underserved areas, with a focus on public health workforce, such as Nursing and Community Health Workers (CHWs)
• Plan and implement after-school health career programming including summer camps, the Health Career Explorers program, school presentations and the annual Health Career Showcase.
• Participate in KY AHEC Statewide meetings and constituency group meetings when scheduled. Participate in NC AHEC staff meetings and other meetings when scheduled. Collaborate with the UK AHEC Program Office/Center for Interprofessional and Community Health Education(CICHE), regional AHEC offices, and other schools to provide and share effective and innovative health career programming
• Assist programs and staff at Gateway Community and Technical College to advance recruitment, growth, and development of health career programming. Participate in committees and/or meeting that encourage diversity and equity amongst the student community. Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Maintain statistics and records of all programs provided including entering data in the AHEC Navigator database and UofL Med app database, programs’ effectiveness, and evaluation; prepare grant funding reports for federal and state funding, Other duties as assigned.
