Job Summary

Jefferson Community and Technical College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Landscape Operations Manager to lead our groundskeeping team in maintaining safe, clean, and attractive outdoor spaces across our school campuses. This role is vital to ensure that students, employees, and visitors enjoy a welcoming and well-maintained environment year-round.

Job Duties:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Administration-Facilities and Operations, The Landscape Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, care, and improvement of campus grounds to ensure a safe, attractive, and functional outdoor environment. This role includes supervising groundskeeping staff, managing landscaping projects, coordinating seasonal maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of groundskeeping personnel, including scheduling, task assignment and performance evaluation.
• Provide training and guidance to grounds staff on best practices, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
• Plan and implement landscaping and grounds improvement projects in collaboration with campus leadership.
• Monitor and maintain campus grounds including lawn care, landscaping, tree trimming, irrigation systems, and seasonal clean-up.
• Respond promptly to weather-related emergencies (e.g., snow removal, storm damage) and coordinate appropriate action to ensure safe access to school facilities.
• Conduct regular inspections of grounds to identify hazards, maintenance needs, or areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with other departments for event setup, special projects, and campus beautification efforts.
• Maintain and operate groundskeeping equipment ensuring proper usage, safety, proper storage and servicing (e.g., mowers, blowers, tractors).
• Manage inventory of supplies and equipment such as mulch, fertilizer, tools, and safety gear; coordinate procurement as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, staff schedules, and equipment usage.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required, associate degree or certification in horticulture, arboriculture, landscaping, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in grounds maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of horticulture, landscaping techniques, irrigation systems and ground maintenance equipment.
• Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (e.g., mowers, tractors, snow blowers).
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., work order systems, email, spreadsheets).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor
• Valid driver’s license.
• Occasional evening or weekend work for special events or emergency response.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in pesticide application or turf management.
• Familiarity with college operations and safety protocols.
