Job Summary
Owensboro Community and Technical College is accepting application for our Public Safety Officer (PSO) position. The PSO position is responsible for the enforcement and compliance of all OCTC Student Code of Conduct and KCTCS employee Policies and Procedures. They provide a presence and immediate response to local first responders and serve as Safety, Security, and Emergency Management point of contact for their assigned campus. They respond and assist with Campus Crisis Situations and Emergencies, which includes Deployment and Response to SNAP (Safety Notification Alert Process) Notifications. Shift: Mon. – Fri. 8:00 – 4:30
Job Duties:
Required training (Initiated upon Hire):
• FEMA Incident Command Courses /Independent Study Course (Online)
• OSHA -10
• AED/CPR
• Basic First Aid
• Stop the Bleed
• Active Aggressor Response
• Opioid Overdose Recognition and NARCAN Administration
• Seizure Recognition and First Aid
The duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Interact with campus community members and visitors with a customer service orientation, such as answering simple inquiries and providing directions.
• Patrol campus to identify, document, and escalate risks to public safety, including crime, environmental hazards, crowd control, and property theft and damage.
• Conduct security inspections periodically and make recommendations for eliminating security risks.
• Identify, investigate, correct, or report actions or situations which may present a hazard to public safety, physical security, and/or public welfare in and around assigned areas.
• Prepare accident, incident, and injury reports.
• Provide support to Law Enforcement Officers and First Responders.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma and one (1) year of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associates degree and two (2) years of relevant work experience in Military, Law Enforcement, or First Responder (EMS, Fire Fighter) is preferred.
Additional Skills Requested:
• Communicate information that requires explanation or interpretation.
• Regularly require standing, walking the campus regularly, and use of hands for extended periods of time.
• Lock and unlock campus doors and interior rooms.
• Ability to lift, push, pull up to 40 pounds.
