Job Summary
The Academic Advisor (Student Support Specialist II) -- 2 Positions -- will work to provide both virtual and in-person wrap-around student services support that includes both currently enrolled and transitioning Foster Youth to provide outreach, support and KCTCS transitioning services into KCTCS colleges. This is accomplished by working with the DCBS Independent Living Specialists (ILP) to support and move targeted Foster Youth from inquiry to applicant, to enrolled students, assisting with FAFSA, Foster Youth waiver, scheduling, placement testing, new student orientation, and ongoing academic advising and support.
The Success Coach will meet with participants (virtually and in person) and advise students concerning their college and career plans, academic schedule, choice of program, and other activities as it pertains to their program / career goals that will lead to obtaining a certificate, diploma, or degree. The Success Coach will assist the college in monitoring student progress and providing the necessary wrap around support services leading to student success and job placement.
One position will be located on the Bluegrass Community & Technical College Campus, Lexington, KY and the other position on the Jefferson Community & Technical College Campus, Louisville, KY.
This is a Grant Funded defined-term contract position renewable each fiscal year.
KCTCS offers a hybrid work schedule with a requirement to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per work week. Hybrid work schedules are subject to periodic review and may be modified or terminated at any time.
Job Duties:
Communicate with students using electronic modalities to assist their successful matriculation. (i.e. Starfish, Radius, Illume, PeopleSoft, etc.). Utilize software tools to help students with career planning, resume building, job searches, interview skills, and job placement.
Provide information on various credential programs offered by the home college and employment opportunities in the five sector areas. Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare, Business and Information Technology, Transportation and Logistics, and Construction.
Review all appropriate documents or potential students and facilitate their access to the tuition waiver and other available resources.
Establish working relationships with designated DCBS ILPs, all appropriate campus personnel and resources, Career Centers, and other organizations that can assist the targeted population.
Work with student applicants to schedule any required placement testing, new student orientation, and / or on-site academic advising and services as needed.
In conjunction with the home college advisors, create communication plans that provide the wrap-around support services leading to completion, career opportunities, and job placement.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social/Human Services and one (1) year of relevant experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social/Human Services and three (3) year of relevant experience or equivalent.
Additional Skills Requested:
Comfortable with PeopleSoft, Starfish, Radius, and other on-line tools
