Job Summary
The primary purpose of the CDL Instructor is to coordinate, promote, and deliver customized Class A, CDL training (instruction) for students in a credit program.
Job Duties:
• Coordinate the development and delivery of Class A, CDL training to students from a variety of backgrounds. Must be present on campus or training site for teaching and advising a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.
• Comply with all state and federal CDL/DOT requirements. Ensure program standards meet the Federal and State Training Provider Registry Requirements.
• Coordinate part-time instructor assignments and course scheduling. Assist in securing additional adjunct instructors as needed.
• Assist with instructional training modules and monitor student skills/progress while maintaining student files. Track student completion and learning outcomes including grades, graduation requirements, and performance tracking.
• Assist with counseling students concerning the program, their progress and completion requirements.
• Escort students to Kentucky State Police testing facility and prepare them for successful completion of the Class A, CDL driving test.
• Manage CDL operational needs and supplies for the program, working closely with Director of Program and other staff in the Workforce Solutions department.
• Participate in student and employer recruiting as well as participate in team planning meetings.
• Other duties as assigned (may include departmental meetings, internal or external service, professional development, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree and three years related experience, or equivalent.
• Must hold a valid Kentucky Class A, CDL license with over-the-road CDL driving experience.
• Ability to effectively communicate with and respond to diverse populations and situations that arise. Ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high-pressure situations.
• Excellent organizational skills, time management, flexibility, and attention to detail. Ability to remain apprised of current industry standards and state laws and regulations.
• In-depth knowledge of and ability to teach every aspect of truck driving. Classroom, road and range instruction experience is preferred.
