Job Summary
Gateway Community & Technical College is seeking an exceptional and energetic individual as an instructor in our Computer Information Technology (CIT) program. The ideal candidate must be willing to teach and mentor the next generation of IT professionals through teaching excellence, quality advising, and relationship/partnership building with local businesses and industries. The ideal candidate must be willing to set standards of excellence in the industry and maintain continuous contact with the area business and industry community to ensure Gateway remains current with job entry requirements, current CIT technology trends, and equipment.
Job Duties:
- Teach assigned courses in computer information technology.
- Advise computer information technology students.
- Facilitate instruction using multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, and online).
- Post and maintain office hours.
- Participate in the assessment of course and program student learning outcomes.
- Assist fully in departmental functions including lab maintenance, equipment inventory, attending advisory committee meetings, maintaining relations with industry partners, and prospective student recruitment activities.
- Maintain industry certifications to teach assigned courses (costs covered by GCTC).
- Participate in the life of the college through internal service opportunities.
- Represent the college through external service opportunities in the community.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Assume leadership roles where appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer information technology, information technology, or a substantially related field.
- Candidates with an associate degree in information technology and substantial industry experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in IT.
- Current IT industry certifications or willingness to obtain industry certifications (college funded)
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, ability to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in computer information technology, information technology, or a substantially related field.
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in the IT industry.
- Experience with Linux, networking, and hardware.
- Experience working with English language learners and/or fluency in Spanish and/or French.
- Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)
- Significant teaching experience, particularly at the college level
- Strong dedication to enhancing student learning and achievement
- Experience in academic advising and supporting student success
- Previous experience in a community college setting
Additional Skills Requested:
**Applicants selected for an interview will be required to give a short (approximately 15 minutes) teaching demonstration on the topic to be determined prior to the interview.
10-month faculty contracts span the academic year, typically from August to May, with no course assignments during June and July. Although the contract covers 10 months, the salary is spread over 12 months, ensuring a consistent monthly salary.
Benefits are provided year-round. Renewal of the contract depends on factors such as student enrollment and available funding.
Faculty may be assigned courses that include both traditional college students and high school students earning dual credit. This dynamic mix offers a unique opportunity to engage learners at different stages of their academic journey.
