Job Summary

The coordinator will lead initiatives to increase the number of students entering the healthcare workforce and to improve their understanding of healthcare options and career pathways.

Job Duties:

• Working closely with the Healthcare Workforce Development Specialist, North Central AHEC staff, Gateway, healthcare providers, educational institutions, community organizations, and statewide partners, the coordinator will help advance healthcare workforce development through career pathway programs, continuing education opportunities, workforce training, and community engagement efforts.
  
• Plan and implement health career programming including after-school, Health Career Explorers programs in collaboration with community partners who will enhance AHEC and Gateway’s mission and provide opportunities for students to learn about health professions.
  
• Plan and coordinate mock interviews, a Boot Camp and shadowing experiences for high school students and adult learners.
• Answers questions and provides information regarding students’ services, policies, and procedures and employment preparation
  
• Assist with events, such as the annual NKY Health Career Showcase, and recruitment of students into the AHEC Scholars program;
• Assist with the Scholars didactic and experiential sections to meet core competencies
  
• Participate in KY AHEC Statewide meetings and constituency group meetings when scheduled.
• Participate in NC AHEC staff meetings and other meetings when scheduled.
• Collaborate with the UK AHEC Program Office/Center for Interprofessional and Community Health Education(CICHE), regional AHEC offices, and other schools to provide and share effective and innovative health career programming
  
• Maintain statistics and records of all programs provided including entering data in the AHEC Salesforce database
• Provide programs’ effectiveness, and evaluation; prepare grant funding reports for federal and state funding
  
• Assist programs and staff at Gateway Community and Technical College to advance recruitment, growth, and development of health career programming.
• Participate in committees and/or meetings that encourage recruitment and enrollment.
• Schedule logistics and secure resources for activities associated with Gateway and AHEC health profession programs.
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 2-4 years of relevant experience
  
• Ability to teach interactive classes for middle/high school and college-level students.
  
• Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight travel.
  
• Must be able to work independently.
  
• Available to work some weekends, as needed.
  
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, ability to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  
• Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word) 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in health career pathway programs related to maternal and infant health, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), behavioral health, Community Health Workers (CHW) programs, public health and prevention, and other workforce development priorities.

Additional Skills Requested:

The Health Career Pathways Coordinator -Works with local communities, schools, hospitals, other medical facilities, and state educational and social service agencies to plan and implement health professions recruitment, education and assistance programs; - Requires coordination and participation in frequent evening and weekend events and meetings; - Collaborates with health systems and other partners to provide simulation events; -Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the AHEC Director; - Develops and implements health profession recruitment programs (including medical students) with necessary partners by developing initiatives for health career education programming to include shadowing experiences, health career events/workshops, mentoring programs, summer enrichment programs, health career opportunities manuals, health career pathways, counseling/referral services, animal dissections, and evaluation and long-term tracking from recruitment through alumni status.
