Job Summary
The Humanities Department of Jefferson Community and Technical College has an opening for a full-time Reading Instructor. The primary modality for instruction will be in-person. Other teaching modalities may be implemented as needed.
Job Duties:
This position will primarily be responsible for instruction in Reading, instruction in the First Year Experience course when needed, maintaining office hours for mentoring and coaching students, success and retention activities, and utilization of Blackboard for communication and feedback. This position may teach on multiple JCTC campuses.
Other duties include but are not limited to:
• Academic advising
• Course and curriculum development
• Internal and external community service
• Educational leadership and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's in Reading and/or Adult Literacy, or a Master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate hours in Reading/Adult Literacy instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in, and understanding of the importance of, working with students from diverse backgrounds required. Teaching experience at the college level preferred. This position requires the ability to work in a culturally diverse environment, which consist of frequent contact with a diverse constituency of students, faculty, staff, and the public. The preferred candidates should also have experience and sensitivity working with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive work and learning environment in which students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive.
