Job Summary

Provides supervision and direction for all areas of the custodial services department of the College to ensure proper cleaning of facilities, grounds and maintenance and repair of all equipment including management, planning, budget, and resource allocation for multiple Lexington campuses. Serves in a consultative capacity for all regional campuses providing training, expertise and human resources as needed.

Job Duties:

General Administrative

  • Provide leadership to the unit consistent with the mission of the college and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and in cooperation with other college administrators.

  • Participate with the chancellor and other college leadership in planning and assessing overall college operations and initiatives.

  • Work with unit staff in developing and assessing the annual unit plans based on the college strategic plan.

  • Support accountability and institutional effectiveness by developing, implementing, and assessing effective procedures that support college operations and foster student success. 

  • Provide leadership for the unit in participating in annual and biennial college-level budgeting.

  • Develop and monitor an annual budget related to the goals and operational needs of the unit.

  • Supervise staff including recommendations on hiring, orientation, coaching, evaluation, and supporting professional development.

  • Participate in college and system organizational development activities including service on college or system committees or involvement in other initiatives as assigned.

  • Participate in professional organizations and professional developmentFunctional Area

  • Provides leadership by developing and implementing effective work procedures and schedules and by evaluating work performance of custodial personnel for multiple campuses.

  • Performs personnel management functions in collaboration with the dean of operations, vice chancellor of finance and operations and the human resources department, including hiring, termination, performance evaluations, training, and recommendations for personnel actions. Works constantly to improve the skills, abilities, and knowledge of personnel by providing them with training on the compliance and application of rules and regulations, develops a short- and long-term training plan for new and current personnel.

  • Develops, manages, reviews, and monitors the custodial department budget and participates in college wide budget development.

  • Establishes and implements cleaning and sanitization procedures for buildings, floors, furniture, appliances, and surfaces and provides training to custodial personnel on these procedures for multiple campuses.

  • Establishes and updates the deferred cleaning and maintenance and preventative procedures priorities lists and ensures that custodial personnel are trained on these procedures and implement the plan for multiple campuses.

  • Oversees the training of all custodial employees including regional campuses, ensuring all safety requirements are met and all guidelines established by KCTCS are followed. Ensures custodial personnel receive required OSHA safety, blood borne pathogens, chemical hygiene, and hazardous waste training and ensures compliance and reporting.

  • Receives job orders from faculty and staff and completes or assigns tasks to custodial personnel.

  • Plans and orders supplies, manages supply inventories and distribution for multiple campuses.

  • Plans and orders equipment and parts for proper maintenance of the custodial equipment for multiple campuses. Reviews and ensures renewal, re-negotiation, or cancellation of vendor contracts for custodial supplies and equipment.

  • Manages custodial budgets for multiple campuses and submits properly completed and approved purchasing documents by established deadlines. Provides fiscal management of all current expenses and equipment purchases related to the custodial department.

  • Oversees recycling programs for multiple campuses and supports and assists with sustainability initiatives.

  • Provides support, leadership, personnel, and expertise to the regional campus locations.

  • Research new techniques and trainings to improve cleaning and sanitization techniques to promote healthy campuses.

  • Maintains the Safety Data Sheets program for custodial personnel and ensures maintenance personnel receive annual training on these documents.

  • Reviews and updates the annual KCTCS space inventory audit ensuring accurate inclusion in the room scheduling software.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Professional Development

  • Completes all required annual training courses.

  • Attend and actively participate in college wide professional development events such as fall kick-off.

  • Completes annual Hazardous Communications, Hazardous Waste, Blood Borne Pathogens training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree  2 years of management or supervisory experience; and minimum 3 years of experience. or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred is Bachelors degree and 4 years of management or supervisory experience; and minimum 5 years of experience.
