Job Summary

Big Sandy Community & Technical College is seeking Full Time Dental Hygiene/CDHC Program Instructor/Assistant Professor to teach at our BSCTC Satellite Campus located at Somerset, KY.

Job Duties:

Serve a Community Dental Health Program Coordinator

Two days each week will be spent on the CDHC Program duties including but not limited to the following:

  • Engage community partners and stakeholders.
  • Promote the CDHC program to students and the surrounding community.
  • Plan and facilitate community dental outreach events.
  • Advise and enroll students in the CDHC program.
  • Monitor matriculation and student retention rates.
  • Teach a three (3) hour online CDHC course each Fall semester and a three (3) hour online CDHC course each Spring semester.
  • Facilitate/teach 6-hour summer internship for CDHC students.
  • Manage CDHC Program budget.
  • Coordinate use of Delta Dental mobile unit.

Dental Hygiene Program Instructor/Faculty
Three days each week will be spend on Dental Hygiene Program duties including but not limited to the following:

  • Full time requirement on the Somerset Community College Laurel North satellite campus in London, KY.
    • Teach a full course load each semester. This includes:
    • Teach didactic courses each semester for both first and/or second year dental hygiene students. Synchronous lectures will be delivered in person on the London campus and via Blackboard Collaborate for the Paintsville , KY location.
    • Provide laboratory instruction for both first and/or second year dental hygiene students. This includes but is not limited to: pre-clinical dental hygiene and local anesthesia delivery.
    • Provide clinical coverage for both first and/or second year dental hygiene students. Will be responsible for monitoring progression and grading of student as they perform dental hygiene treatment/procedures on a variety of patients in the dental clinic.
    • Participate in Dental Hygiene Program and college-wide committees

  • Provide ten office hours per week for student advising and course planning/management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Full time faculty must possess a baccalaureate or higher degree.
  • Faculty who are dental hygienists must be a graduate of a hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Must have current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching.
  • Must provide documented background in current educational methodology concepts consistent with teaching assignments.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

Current clinical practice experience preferred.
Experience with distance education techniques and delivery methods preferred.
Community Dental Health Coordinator Certificate preferred.
