Job Summary
The Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Summer Program Assistant provides support in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Upward Bound Math and Science summer enrichment program. This position involves working closely with program staff, instructors, and students (high school participants) to ensure a safe, engaging, and academically enriching environment that promotes college and career readiness in STEM fields.
Job Duties:
• Assist with daily operations of the UBMS summer program, including student supervision, attendance tracking, meal coordination, and activity logistics.
• Support the implementation of academic instruction and enrichment activities, including classroom setup, tutoring, and monitoring behavior.
• Chaperone field trips, college visits, and cultural activities; ensure the safety and appropriate conduct of participants at all times.
• Help manage supplies, maintain program materials, and ensure classroom and dorm spaces remain organized and clean.
• Serve as a positive role model, encouraging student engagement, respectful behavior, and personal growth.
• Support residential staff (if applicable) in the evening and during overnight trips.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and end-of-program evaluations.
• Communicate promptly with the UBMS Staff regarding student issues, emergencies, or program needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, psychology, counseling, STEM, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with high school youth, particularly those from low-income, first-generation backgrounds.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to follow directions, work as part of a team, and manage time effectively.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends; willingness to travel with the program on field trips.
• Must pass a criminal background check and complete any required college or institutional training.
