Job Summary

We’re looking for a passionate and student‑centered Automotive Technology Instructor to join our Transportation Technologies team. If you enjoy helping students build real‑world automotive skills, thrive in a hands‑on learning environment, and want to make a meaningful impact on the next generation of technicians, this is the role for you.

**Applicants selected for an interview will be required to give a short (approximately 15 minutes) teaching demonstration on the topic to be determined before the interview.

10-month faculty contracts span the academic year, typically from August to May, with no course assignments during June and July. Although the contract covers 10 months, the salary is spread over 12 months, ensuring a consistent monthly salary.
Benefits are provided year-round. Renewal of the contract depends on factors such as student enrollment and available funding.

Faculty may be assigned courses that include both traditional college students and high school students earning dual credit. This dynamic mix offers a unique opportunity to engage learners at different stages of their academic journey.

Job Duties:

  • Teach a full‑time course load each fall and spring in Automotive Technology, using both traditional classroom instruction and web‑enhanced formats.
  • Deliver high‑quality instruction in automotive theory, diagnostics, repair, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and well-equipped lab and classroom environment.
  • Stay up to date on automotive industry trends and help ensure the curriculum remains current.
  • Participate in department and college committees as needed.
  • Advise students academically and support their educational and career goals.
  • Assist in program activities, including student recruitment, retention, and assessment.
  • Teach at a variety of levels to support the college’s instructional needs.
  • Be willing to work daytime and/or evening hours as needed.
  • Summer teaching opportunities with additional compensation may be available and encouraged.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an automotive technician.
  • Current ASE Master Technician Certification.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, ability to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in a technical discipline.
  • ASE Master Certification + L1 Certification.
  • 5+ years of experience as an automotive technician.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)
  • Significant teaching experience, particularly at the college level
  • Strong dedication to enhancing student learning and achievement
  • Experience working with and understanding students from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in academic advising and supporting student success
  • Previous experience in a community college setting
