Job Summary
Gateway Community and Technical College invites applications for the position of HVAC Instructor. The instructor will provide instruction in the field of air conditioning technology to prepare students for various entry-level HVAC positions in the industry and the building trades.
Job Duties:
- Teach HVAC classes and labs including demonstrations of diagnosis and repair of improperly working equipment.
- Work collaboratively with students, fellow faculty, and staff to ensure the educational needs of the individual learner are met.
- Maintenance and care of classrooms, labs & training materials.
- Keep abreast of changes in the HVAC field and help keep the program/instruction updated.
- Provide instruction to students in both theory and practice.
- Provide students with the background, knowledge and basic skills needed to function effectively on the job
- Provide academic advising to students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on HVAC industry experience
One of the following (education or credentials):
- Associate degree related to HVAC (preferred), or
- Journeyman License or other current HVAC license/certification (preferred), or
- Certificate or credential from a vocational or technical school, or
- Secondary occupational certificate in HVAC
- Must be able to demonstrate HVAC knowledge and skills related to the courses taught
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Strong people skills; able to communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, and community partners
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and prioritize work efficiently
- Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates in HVAC
- EPA608 License
- Experience working at the community college level.
- Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)
- Significant teaching experience, particularly at the college level
- Strong dedication to enhancing student learning and achievement
- Experience in academic advising and supporting student success
- Previous experience in a community college setting
Additional Skills Requested:
- Benefits are provided year-round. Renewal of the contract depends on factors such as student enrollment and available funding.
**Applicants selected for an interview will be required to give a short (approximately 15 minutes) teaching demonstration on the topic to be determined prior to the interview.
- Faculty may be assigned courses that include both traditional college students and high school students earning dual credit. This dynamic mix offers a unique opportunity to engage learners at different stages of their academic journey.
- This position will be located at both the Boone and Covington Campus.
