Job Summary
Teaches physics and astronomy lectures and laboratories to students, advises students, maintains office hours, provides internal service to the college as assigned, provides external service as a representative of the college, pursues professional development, and provides leadership where appropriate. The position requires flexibility of scheduling and may include online and in person instruction at regional campuses.
Job Duties:
- Teach transferable, non-majors/majors physics and astronomy lectures and labs.
- Set up labs.
- Develop syllabi, course materials, exams, student outcome assessment, etc.
- Use computer technology in lectures, laboratories, and online to enhance student learning.
- Work closely with physics and astronomy faculty members.
- Assist part-time instructors and substitute for absent instructors as needed.
- Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Participate in internal and external service within the division and the college.
- Engage in an appropriate level of professional development.
- Regular availability for students through office hours.
- Completion of any College/System required service and training.
- Ability to commute between various regional campuses as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the assistant dean or college leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in physics.
OR
- Master’s degree in any field AND 18 graduate semester hours in physics and/or astronomy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience teaching at the college level preferred.
Additional Skills Requested:
- Experience with Blackboard or other Learning Management Systems.
