Job Summary

The Technology Solutions Department of Jefferson Community and Technical College is seeking an IT Support Specialist with a strong focus on low voltage infrastructure and audiovisual systems to support campus technology environments. This position is hands on and field oriented, supporting the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of physical technology systems that support instruction, safety, and events.
This position will be primarily based at the Downtown Campus, with work at other Jefferson campuses as needed.

Job Duties:

Key Responsibilities:
The IT Support Specialist in this role works extensively with structured cabling, security cameras, classroom AV, displays, projectors, and sound systems, and regularly performs work that requires ladder use, power tools, and physical installation tasks. While some end user technical support is included, this position is primarily infrastructure focused rather than desktop centric.
• Install, pull, terminate, and test low‑voltage cabling (data, camera, AV, and related systems)
• Install and support security cameras, access control devices, TVs, projectors, and sound systems
• Mount displays, projectors, camera hardware, and related equipment using appropriate tools and hardware
• Troubleshoot and repair physical layer connectivity, cabling issues, and AV signal problems

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience with low voltage cabling, including pulling, terminating, labeling, and testing
• Knowledge of physical networking fundamentals (copper cabling, patch panels, wall plates)
• Experience installing and supporting audiovisual systems, including projectors, TVs, and sound systems
• Familiarity with security camera systems and related hardware
• Ability to safely and effectively use ladders, lifts, hand tools, and power tools
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Active Directory concepts
• Ability to work independently on job sites and follow technical diagrams and installation standards
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices
• Ability to lift and carry equipment and perform physical tasks associated with installations

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field
• Minimum of two years of experience in IT support
• Strong knowledge of Windows and macOS operating systems
• Familiarity with mobile device management and troubleshooting
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field
• Four years of experience in IT support, preferably in higher education
• CompTIA A++
• CompTIA Network+
• Experience with ticketing systems and IT service management tools
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals and security best practices
