Job Summary

The BCTC Safety and Security Department (SSD) ensures that all safety and security functions for the college are completed in accordance with Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) business procedures and in compliance with all State and Federal statutes and regulations. The department is also responsible for development and implementation of programs related to all hazards, emergency response, emergency management, incident management, hazardous materials, safety, and security including necessary documentation and reporting (i.e. Annual Report for the Clery and Minger Acts and hazardous waste reports). Personnel within this department are often required to be available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Work hours 7:00am – 3:00pm with some weekend shifts required.

The Campus Security Supervisor position within the SSD provides overall safety and security services for the assigned campus. The Supervisor, on a regular basis, fulfills duties as a Security Officer and assumes additional responsibilities related to the supervision of other SSD personnel at the assigned campus to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the local branch of the BCTC SSD.

Job Duties:

  1. Provide comprehensive safety and security services for the assigned campus including patrolling the campus to ensure the security of rooms and restricted areas, and responding to/monitoring any reported accidents, disturbances, incidents, or emergencies. Maintain a daily log of campus activities and notify the Director of Safety and Security of any unusual activities.

  2. Monitor and conduct routine patrols of parking facilities and issue citations as needed.

  3. In cooperation with other college divisions, enforce Student Code of Conduct relating to student responsibilities and behaviors, and address code violations.

  4. Investigate all theft, destruction of property, or other similar reports on the assigned campus in cooperation with local police to ensure all reporting procedures are completed and provided to the Director of Safety and Security.

  5. Supervise and schedule evening/weekend security personnel for the assigned campus including time and attendance activities. Provide assistance to them as necessary.

  6. Fire and Security Alarms – Complete daily and periodic assessments of the control panels for these systems to ensure operational integrity and investigate/report any alarms. Respond to ALL alarm activations and investigate all alarms to identify possible causes; work to correct any noted deficiencies. In a timely manner, report and provide documentation of the situation to the Director of Safety and Security. Work with alarm providers and BCTC Maintenance and Operations staff as directed to ensure proper operation and to correct equipment malfunctions.

  7. Schedule and conduct mandated fire drills each semester and report on the outcome and recommendations to the Director of Safety and Security.

  8. Act as the coordinator of the Crisis Management Team and Incident Commander during any emergency incidents at the assigned campus.

  9. Act as a liaison with external agencies within the local community to ensure continued cooperation.

  10. Acquire and maintain knowledge/skills related to NIMS, Incident Command System, CPR/First Aid/AED, BCTC emergency procedures and plans, and local emergency response. Complete regular training as directed by the Director of Safety and Security.

  11. Monitor campus activity through provided surveillance equipment and routine patrolling of the assigned campus. Maintain surveillance equipment in good operation as necessary.

  12. Coordinate employee access to buildings (keys and access cards) with assigned campus coordinator, Director of Safety and Security, and/or Dean of Operations as needed.

  13. Inspect safety and security equipment (i.e. AED) and supplies at the assigned campus on a monthly basis to ensure adequate supplies and proper operation. Coordinate repairs and/or replacements as directed.

  14. Submit all required reports to the Director of Safety and Security including, but not limited to, monthly activity reports and daily incident reports as per Clery/Minger Act.

  15. Participate in communication throughout the Safety and Security team including morning and afternoon radio checks.

  16. Coordinate the completion, submission, and review of all incident reports for the assigned campus and submit to the Director of Safety and Security.

  17. Ensure a safe and secure environment for students and staff on the assigned campus through emergency notifications (SNAP), security/safety personnel availability, and emergency response on a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week basis.

  18. Ensure assigned campus safety and security personnel follow guidelines and complete all necessary training related to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hazardous materials and communication, bloodborne pathogens, etc.

  19. Establish and maintain routines of practice drills, training exercises, and procedure reviews for the assigned campus and document, with a copy of the documentation transmitted to the Director of Safety and Security.

  20. Ensure all safety and security information available to students and staff is appropriate and current. Any comments or corrections should be directed to the Director of Safety and Security.

  21. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree and three years related experience, or equivalent.
