Job Summary

Jefferson Community and Technical College seeks a part-time Sociology Adjunct Instructor to teach one in-person section of SWK 275 The Family at its Carrollton Campus for Spring 2027. This three-credit social work course examines family systems, family interactions, major family issues, and resources for addressing family needs.

Job Duties:

Academic Term: Spring 2027, January 11-May 9, 2027 (full-term semester).
Coursework ends April 30; final exams are May 3-9.

Teaching Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:00-3:15 p.m. (Eastern Time).
The Carrollton Campus is located at 1607 US Highway 227, Carrollton , KY 41008.

This is NOT a virtual or remote position. In-person teaching at JCTC's Carrollton, Kentucky campus is required on the assigned days and times. Applicants without this in-person availability should not apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Plan and deliver in-person instruction aligned with approved course outcomes; use lectures, discussion, and applied activities to support student learning.
• Prepare course materials, assess student work, and provide timely feedback. Maintain accurate grades, attendance, and required academic records.
• Maintain office hours, communicate promptly with students, and participate in student success and retention activities.
• Use Blackboard Ultra learning management system to post materials, manage assignments and grades, and communicate with students.
• Create an inclusive, accessible classroom; work professionally with students, faculty, staff, and the public, and follow college and departmental policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet one of the following education requirements:
• An earned master's degree in Sociology; OR
• An earned master's degree in a related field AND at least 18 graduate credit hours coded 'SOC' on the applicant's transcript.
Transcripts must document the qualifying degree and required graduate SOC coursework.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Teaching experience or graduate study related to family sociology, family systems, or social work with families.
• College teaching experience, demonstrated student engagement, dependable attendance, and effective communication in an academic environment.
• Digital literacy and experience with Blackboard Ultra or a comparable learning management system.
• Experience with inclusive teaching and mentoring diverse and underrepresented students, and incorporating diverse and intersectional perspectives into instruction.
