Federal Work-Study Program: The Federal Work Study program is a federally funded program designed to aid students who have demonstrated financial need. A Federal Work Study (FWS) award is given as part of the financial aid package. Under the FWS program, you can earn money for your education by working part-time while you are enrolled in school at least half-time (6 credit hours) and have documented unmet need. HCC offers a significant number of FWS opportunities. Generally FWS positions are on-campus, but a limited number of opportunities are available off-campus. The Financial Aid office determines a student’s eligibility for this program and the amount of the work award. You need to make sure you have completed a financial aid FAFSA application for the current Financial Aid Award Year and have a valid FAFSA on file. Your total FWS award depends on: • when you apply • your level of financial need • your school's funding level • a supervisor's willingness to hire you.
Ready to Work (RTW) Program: If you are a student or potential student of Hopkinsville Community College and you receive Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) benefits, you may be eligible to participate in the Ready to Work (RTW) program. There are many RTW students who are currently working in various jobs on and off campus. The Ready to Work program is a partnership between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The program is designed to move individuals from welfare to the workplace. Ready to Work assists students who are recipients of KTAP. The Ready to Work program provides career assessment, skills attainment, life skills, plus a wide array of counseling, advising and mentoring services. Workshops are conducted throughout the year which are geared toward the needs of those students who are enrolled in the program. The workshops most requested are: employability skills, budgeting, parenting, and study skills. This program also serves the adult education/remediation students who are working toward obtaining a diploma or needing to brush up on their academics before entering into postsecondary education. Student participants are placed in temporary jobs that enable them to gain employability skills and retention skills, while allowing time to study for the GED. Participants receive advising, mentoring and job readiness skills while participating in this program.
Student Support Services: Temporary part-time student peer mentors on as needed basis.
