Job Summary
Somerset Community College is accepting applications for a Student Support Specialist I position. This position will work under the direction of the Director of Online Learning to provide technical support, user assistance, training, and leadership in the areas of educational technology. This position will work directly with students, faculty and Learning Commons staff and faculty.
Job Duties:
• Provides educational technology support to students, faculty, and staff through the Learning Commons, including assistance with learning management systems (Blackboard), publisher content, academic software, hardware, and other technologies supporting teaching and learning;
• Collaborates with Information Technology and other departments to maintain, upgrade, and support educational technologies within the Learning Commons;
• Administers and provides technical support for the laptop loan program and other student technology access initiatives;
• Evaluates and makes recommendations for improving online course accessibility, including assisting faculty with LMS accessibility reports, captioning, and other accessibility best practices;
• Works with the Director of Online Learning to evaluate, pilot, and implement emerging technologies that enhance instruction, learning, and academic support services;
• Assists with MakerSpace operations, including XR/VR technologies, 3D printing, Adobe Creative Cloud applications, and other emerging technologies such as Power Automate;
• Maintains current knowledge of educational technologies, software, and industry trends, and develops proficiency with newly adopted systems and applications;
• Uses web authoring tools, content management systems, and programming languages as needed to maintain websites, intranet resources, and other digital learning materials;
• Develops and delivers training sessions, workshops, and small-group instruction for students, faculty, and staff on educational technologies and related resources;
• Supports student access to computers and internet resources through scheduled Learning Commons and computer lab coverage as needed;
• Travels occasionally to other campus locations to provide support, training, and technology assistance;
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree (related field), and two years related experience, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (related field), and experience with Power Automate, XR/VR, 3D printing.
