Job Summary
The Instructional Designer IV will play a critical role in the training and development of high-quality college faculty across KCTCS. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other members of the Teaching and Learning Office to develop and facilitate workshops, faculty academies, and other professional development projects that scale the use of evidence-based practices to enhance student success. The position will support faculty and staff from multiple colleges by providing support, consultation, needs-based training, and guidance for teaching and learning in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities. S/he will also contribute to/coordinate systemwide quality assurance initiatives related to teaching and learning. The position will assist with goal setting and strategic planning to improve teaching and learning across the System. The incumbent will help faculty and instructional staff turn knowledge into practice that produces tangible results for students.
Positions with the KCTCS System Office located in Versailles, KY are term-contract positions, with the expectancy of continuance based on performance.
KCTCS offers a hybrid work schedule with a requirement to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per work week. Hybrid work schedules are subject to periodic review and may be modified or terminated at any time.
Job Duties:
Using established learning and development frameworks, design and develop impactful faculty development related to teaching and learning that infuse adult learning theories into new and existing System initiatives.
Plan, develop, and evaluate in-person and virtual teaching and learning events such as System-wide meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Facilitate in-person and online workshops related to teaching and learning for faculty and instructional staff across the System, modeling exemplary teaching practice and providing effective consultation, actionable training, and sound learning solutions.
Assist with identifying needs, setting priorities, and planning strategic initiatives to improve teaching and learning across the System.
Produce instructional resources, including websites, videos, graphics, and interactive media elements, that meet accessibility requirements using a variety of digital media editors such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Captivate, etc.
Stay current with online, hybrid, and face-to-face teaching research, theory, and practice, the latest industry tools, and trends in higher education, and incorporate findings into professional development offerings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or other relevant teaching experience and four (4) years of relevant experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or other relevant teaching experience and six (4) years of relevant experience or equivalent.
Additional Skills Requested:
1) Successful teaching or training experience in a higher education setting.
2) Experience developing and delivering courses in a known LMS environment (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, etc.).
3) Mastery of adult learning theory, pedagogy /andragogy, and common instructional practices.
4) Knowledge of accepted design, development, and delivery standards for online and face-to-face learning, as demonstrated through an instructional design portfolio or relevant work samples.
5) Familiarity with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
6) Excellent oral and written communication skills.
7) Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaborate closely with team members.
8) Experience using online education tools, including authoring tools such as Camtasia and Articulate.
9) Self-directed, able to set and meet deadlines.
10) Demonstrated ability to learn new educational technologies, particularly through self-study.
