Job Summary

The primary purpose of this Instructional Technologist II position is to support the Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences laboratory classes by preparation, maintenance, and clean-up of equipment and supplies used in the labs. In addition, the Instructional Technologist is responsible for ordering and maintaining budget and inventory records as well as coordinating laboratory experiences to ensure safety procedures are followed in compliance with federal, state, and KCTCS guidelines.

Job Duties:

  • Manage labs, including set up, transition, and clean up, with assistance from faculty and students

  • Ensure lab supplies and equipment are readily available, turned on, and in working order prior to the start of scheduled labs.

  • Review, refine, develop and update lab protocols and manuals as needed.

  • Provide a safe lab environment, including ongoing development and enforcement of safety processes and procedures.

  • Maintain SDSs for reagents according to state and federal guidelines.

  • Manage the inventory of supplies and lab equipment, documenting inventory annually.

  • Recommend and assist with the purchasing process for lab equipment and supplies.

  • Store, properly label and oversee disposal of all lab-generated hazardous materials.

  • Orient faculty and students to the laboratory equipment.

  • Operate, clean and calibrate lab equipment/instruments as needed.

  • Manage student workers when available.

  • Serve as contact for adjunct faculty for questions concerning lab experiments.

  • Assist with set-up of lecture demonstrations.

  • Other duties as assigned by Assistant Dean, and/or other administration officials.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (in a related field) or equivalent and two years of relevant laboratory experience 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant laboratory experience.
