Job Summary

Somerset Community College is accepting applications for the Dean of Health Sciences. This position serves as the primary administrator for the Health Sciences Division. The Dean of Health Sciences has specific responsibility for assessment, planning, policy and procedure development, and implementation of the academic division to meet the current and long-range needs of faculty and students, and to lead the division forward in meeting the vision, values, and mission of the institution. The Dean of Health Sciences is expected to represent the College appropriately and serve as community liaison for his/her respective division and College as a whole. He/she is responsible for the interpretation and implementation of the academic regulations of the College within his or her own division. The Dean of Health Sciences serves as a full-time administrator with a twelve-month contract.

Job Duties:

• Provide leadership and support to the overall division.

• Work with the division to ensure adherence to accreditation standards, enhanced community engagement, and excellence in teaching.

• Provide oversight in matters of academic policy and procedure.

• Facilitate the evaluation and planning of the academic division.

• Participate in the development of and approve departmental course schedules.

• Build collaborative relationships between divisions and programs within the College, and into the community through dual credit and transfer partnerships.

• Be visible and engaged in student life/activities.

• Establish criteria and procedures to assure that the division and its members are fulfilling assigned responsibilities in a manner consistent with accepted College policies.

• Coordinate financial, human resources, and employment matters in the academic division.

• Serve as reviewer for appropriate division faculty/coordinators and the primary evaluator of the Department Chair in the administration of the Planning, Performance & Evaluation (PPE) requirements.

• Work collaboratively with the office of the Provost in the planning, development and implementation of instructional programming and activities including strategic planning, budget monitoring and project reports.

• Develop innovative strategies that address the student life cycle, foster interprofessional collaboration and promote student/program growth and success.

• Oversee the development of reports for the division as requested.

• Oversee the professional development of faculty and staff.

• Participate in addressing and resolving student and faculty grievances and/or appeals.

• Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree (related field) and five years related work experience, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral Degree (related field) and five years related work experience, or equivalent.
