Job Summary

Jefferson Community and Technical College has an opening for the Prison Education Specialist (Academic Support Specialist III). This position will support the college's Prison Education Program including recruiting, admissions, financial aid, enrollment, transfer, career, and re-entry processes. This position can be located at any Jefferson CTC campus but must maintain on-site office hours minimum, two days per week inside a facility.

Job Duties:

The primary responsibilities are:
• On-site office hours minimum, two days per week inside a facility; Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women, Luther Luckett or Roederer Correctional Complex.
• Coordinate recruiting, admissions, financial aid, enrollment, transfer, career, and re-entry processes and providing direct service to incarcerated students.
• Provide on-site academic and student support to incarcerated students and faculty. This includes maintaining on-site office hours approximately two days per week (minimum).
• Assist the Financial Aid Office in completing federal and state reporting requirements and maintaining required financial and student records.
• Supports the development of educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or online content.
• Work with Prison Education Administrator to maintain relationships with correctional administration, reentry services, potential employers, transfer institutions, chamber of commerce organizations, and other local organizations to provide support to students.
• Other duties as assigned relating to Prison Education Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required (Education or related field preferred). 

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in education or vocational prison programs. Proficient computer skills and electronic case management.

Training Requirements Upon Hire: Complete two weeks of Department of Corrections Academy. Annual Département of Corrections trainings.

Occasional and /or light lifting – limited exposure to disagreeable environmental elements (heat, cold, dirt, chemicals, etc.)
