Job Summary
This position will identify and select participants, assess students’ needs, and provide personal, academic and career services to participants. This position will also present and plan curriculum for 7-12 grades. The Educational Advisor reports to the Project Director.
*** Two (2) positions will be filled from this posting (a 10-month position and a 12-month).***
Job Duties:
1. Facilitates meeting the requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of Education grant.
2. Assists in the recruitment efforts for Educational Talent Search.
3. Monitors recruitment numbers to ensure that program participant requirements are met.
4. Maintains secure files for students/participants in the program.
5. Work effectively with school and community organization personnel to identify, recruit, select and help meet the educational needs of participants.
6. Meet monthly with Talent Search participants at their schools.
7. Obtain semester grades for participants from school personnel.
8. Participate in the development of a creative curriculum and activity development which enhances educational success, financial literacy and career awareness.
9. Develop mentoring relationships and build strong rapport with program participants.
10. Provide direct personal, academic and career development services to Talent Search participants.
11. Plan and coordinate special educational activities, such as college tours, ACT preparation workshops, and residential camps during spring and summer school breaks.
12. Participate in hiring and training of all new staff.
13. Assist in publishing and creating blogs, vlogs and newsletters.
14. Maintain accurate records and files.
15. Document student progress and services provided to project participants. (Blumen)
16. Assist the Project Director in conducting evaluations, preparing performance reports, and other reports as required by BCTC, KCTCS and the U.S. Department of Education.
17. Participate in conferences and workshops to enhance professional development.
18. Other duties as assigned by the project director.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree (Counseling, Education, Student Personnel Services, Higher Education, Social Work, or related field) as required by the program grant.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching and/or advising economically disadvantaged youth.
Additional Skills Requested:
• Able to effectively communicate with students, parents, and school personnel.
• Able to work creatively and effectively within a team environment.
• Familiar with using MS office applications, Google drive, including other databases.
• Familiar with using social media, Facebook, twitter.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Prefer personal experience overcoming economic and educational barriers.
