Job Summary
Big Sandy Community and Technical College invites applications for a Library Assistant II. This position is assigned to the Mayo Campus; however, travel to other campuses may be required. This position provides frontline customer service, circulation support, and daily operational assistance for the college library. This role is essential in helping students, faculty, and community patrons access library resources, develop research skills, and engage with library services.
Job Duties:
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Public Services & Patron Assistance
• Assist and instruct patrons in using library databases, the online catalog, email, self service tools, course platforms (e.g., Blackboard), and lab-supported software.
• Provide general technology and assignment support to students as needed.
Circulation Desk Operations
• Manage circulation desk activities, including checking materials in/out, managing patron records, and tracking usage statistics.
• Compile reports, maintain accurate records, and conduct the annual library inventory.
• Oversee shelf maintenance and supervise student workers performing circulation related tasks.
Periodicals & Mail Processing
• Maintain the master periodicals file and check in current issues.
• Process daily mail, organize materials, and maintain an appealing work area.
• Create and update an index of local newspapers for archival purposes.
Reserves Management
• Maintain and organize the library’s reserve collection using the library cataloging system.
Daily Operations
• Prepare the library/ACE center for daily opening.
• Perform general library assistant duties and support special projects as assigned.
Interlibrary Loans
• Process all interlibrary (using Worldshare) and intralibrary loans, including weekly work at the Prestonsburg Campus Library.
Minimum Qualifications:
The qualified candidate will have excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer a candidate with an associate’s degree and library experience.
