Job Summary

The Step Forward with the Humanities (SFH) Program Coordinator will support the successful implementation of BCTC’s humanities-based educational initiative at Northpoint and Blackburn correctional facilities. This position plays a central role in coordinating program delivery, supporting instructors, and guiding incarcerated participants as they move through the SFH curriculum and prepare for re-entry. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Prison Education Program (PEP), Global Learning, community partners, and the Kentucky Department of Corrections to ensure smooth program operations. A key function of this role is to assist participants in transitioning into GED programs, the PEP, or community-based college enrollment upon release. The Coordinator also manages logistics, tracks outcomes, and serves as a consistent point of contact for students, staff, and external partners.

Job Duties:

Program Coordination & Implementation
• Coordinate all SFH program activities across both correctional facilities, including scheduling modules, instructor assignments, room reservations, and materials distribution.
• Serve as the primary liaison with Department of Corrections staff to ensure compliance with all facility rules and procedures.
• Recruit, onboard, and support instructors for People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos, Clemente Course in the Humanities, and Virtual Study Abroad modules.
• Oversee use of the Lantern learning platform and ensure instructors and students have the needed access and support.
Student Support & Advising
• Serve as the main point of contact for program participants, providing encouragement, basic academic guidance, and timely referrals to tutors, advisors, and re-entry resources.
• Monitor participant progress across all modules and track completion of assignments, participation, and learning milestones.
• Support transitions into the GED program or the Prison Education Program and help participants understand educational pathways available during and after incarceration.
Re-entry Navigation
• Provide individualized re-entry and academic navigation for participants preparing for release, including college admission steps, FAFSA support, community resource referrals, and career planning.
• Collaborate with BCTC Career Services, Kentucky Career Center, second-chance employers, and community partners to connect re-entry individuals to employment and support services.
Peer Tutor & Advisor Oversight
• Assist with the recruitment, training, and supervision of incarcerated peer tutors and college advisors.
• Track tutor hours for post-release stipend awards and ensure appropriate documentation.
• Provide ongoing training updates and serve as a resource for tutors supporting GED and SFH learners.
Program Tracking & Reporting
• Maintain accurate records of enrollment, retention, completion, and participant portfolios across all program components.
• Assist with evaluation activities, including surveys, portfolio collection, and coordination with external evaluators.
• Support the preparation of regular reports for internal stakeholders, grant requirements, and the BCTC Foundation.
General Administration
• Coordinate purchasing, equipment use (including VR headsets), and distribution of instructional materials.
• Assist with grant compliance, including meeting deadlines, tracking expenditures, and supporting sustainability planning.
• Attend relevant meetings with PEP, Global Learning, DOC partners, and community agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree

Grant Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, humanities, social work, counseling, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.
• Two (2) years of experience in program coordination, student services, advising, or community-based education.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders (e.g., corrections staff, faculty, community partners, external agencies).
• Strong organizational skills with experience managing logistics, tracking data, and meeting reporting deadlines.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in education, humanities, social work, counseling, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience serving underserved, adult, or justice-impacted populations in educational contexts, including correctional education, prison education programs (PEP), adult education, or GED programming.
• Experience working with grant-funded programs, including compliance, reporting, and evaluation activities.

• Ability to pass required background checks and meet Kentucky Department of Corrections clearance requirements.
• Reliable transportation for travel between correctional facilities and campus locations.
• Flexibility to align work hours with correctional facility access requirements and program scheduling needs.
