Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing support to the First Year Orientation initiative as a student leader/peer guide. This position takes place during a specific timeframe, that being orientation season, March - August. Must be a current/former student at BCTC/KCTCS. The First Year Orientation Student Leader reports to the Student Success Coordinator (Orientation) and the Associate Dean of Student Success Services (Student Success Hub).

Job Duties:

1. Aid in the set-up and clean-up of orientation on the dates specified (dates will be provided as well as a FYO guide detailing roles).
2. Support and guide prospective students to the location that they are looking for on orientation day (must be knowledgeable on where different resources/departments are located).
3. Participate in the Guided Pathways Breakout Sessions as a peer guide to students by answering student questions, providing first-hand experiences on time spent at BCTC as a student, and assist in the activities that will be implemented in these breakout sessions.
4. Make Student IDs during the lunch/resource fair portion of orientation.
5. Interact with students and parents to answer questions about BCTC.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• In the process of attaining a degree from BCTC/KCTCS college. At least one semester of attendance at a BCTC college in order to provide valuable experience to prospective students. Not necessary to be enrolled in the summer semester.
• At least a 2.5 GPA is preferred
 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Adherence to providing prospective BCTC students with promising and helpful information that will aid in their introduction to the BCTC community.
• Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Punctual, dependable, willing to help out where needed.
