Job Summary

The Custodial Services Assistant Supervisor assists the Director in the oversight of the daily functions of the custodial services department for the assigned campus(es). This position ensures that all custodial functions for their assigned campus(es) are completed in accordance with Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) business procedures and in compliance with all State and Federal statutes and regulations. The Custodial Services Assistant Supervisor coordinates personnel, job assignments, and custodial-related activities in support of the Custodial Services Supervisor and in cooperation with the Custodial Services Team Leader where applicable. Custodial services encompass the proper upkeep of facilities, grounds, and buildings to ensure a clean, sanitary, safe, and pleasant environment for staff, students, and visitors daily.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate and participate in custodial tasks where needed while providing campus custodial team leadership consistent with the mission of BCTC and KCTCS striving to develop an atmosphere of cooperation, communication, and consideration.
  • In cooperation with the Custodial Services Team Leader, Custodial Services Supervisor, and campus custodial team, assist in the development of an ongoing plan of action for custodial services based on BCTC’s strategic plan.
  • Assist the Custodial Services Supervisor in the oversight of custodial services staff, in cooperation with Human Resources and administration, including recommendations on hiring, orientation, coaching, training, evaluations, and supporting professional development.
  • Assist in the development and promotion of a program of accountability, effectiveness, and efficiency for custodial services for the assigned campus, which supports student success and BCTC’s goals as stated in the strategic plan.
  • Operate various pieces of custodial equipment as required and ensure assigned custodial services staff are trained in proper use of equipment.
  • Assure assigned custodial services staff maintain thorough knowledge related to all job duties including safety procedures, tools, and equipment.
  • Participate in routine custodial functions, programs, work orders, and schedules with the objective of ensuring a program of continuous improvement.
  • Assist the Custodial Services Supervisor in BCTC’s annual and biennial budgeting efforts as directed.
  • Provide assistance in the monitoring and control of the annual budget as related to the goals and needs of the custodial services unit for the assigned campus, including purchasing and maintaining supplies, parts, and equipment inventory, keeping proper documentation, and assisting the business office in the compilation of information for asset management.
  • Work collaboratively with the Custodial Services Supervisor to develop a long-term plan establishing goals and objectives for the custodial services unit to ensure effective and efficient use of time and materials.
  • Follow guidelines and complete all necessary training related to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hazardous materials and communication, bloodborne pathogens, etc. as required by applicable regulations and in cooperation with KCTCS Facilities Management.
  • Work collaboratively with the Custodial Services Team Leader and Custodial Services Supervisor in the implementation and completion of college- and system-wide projects and initiatives.
  • Ensure all assigned custodial services staff follow guidelines and complete all necessary training related to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hazardous materials and communication, bloodborne pathogens, etc. as required by applicable regulations and in cooperation with KCTCS Facilities Management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and six years of related experience, or equivalent. 

Additional Skills Requested:

  • Must be physically able to lift heavy items (i.e. office furniture, equipment, etc.); walk extended distances such as those found within and between buildings; and stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed to perform duties.
  • Must be able to work with potential hazardous materials (i.e. cleaning solutions, floor stripping solutions, etc.) utilizing proper personal protective equipment and guidelines.
  • Effective interaction/communication skills.
