Job Summary
Hazard Community and Technical College is accepting applications for the Student Support Specialist I (Success Coach) position. Serves as a Student Success Coach for the Student Support Services grant, connecting students with academic and non-academic resources, providing career counseling, financial aid navigation, advising, class registration, tutoring services, access to support programs, and connection to HCTC student accessibility support services. This position is responsible for delivering Success Coaching and academic advising services that promote student persistence and academic achievement, connecting students with resources to address non-academic barriers, maintaining accurate and ongoing student records and data, and supporting the fulfillment of HCTC Student Support Services grant objectives. This position is grant funded.

Duties:
• Assists incoming and current students through providing intrusive case management while serving as an academic advisor and student advocate, coordinating both academic and non-academic services to support students effectively.
• Monitor student progress to maintain progress, ensuring successful completion of students’ Individualized Graduation Plan.
• Provide career exploration and career counseling services.
• Address students’ academic areas of need and provide support through tutoring services.
• Provide students with supplemental skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, time and organizational management, and basic technical skills.
• Assist students with navigating Blackboard, Peoplesoft Student User Account, and a variety of software platforms. academic tasks such as, test preparation, assignments and projects, and other academic tasks to reinforce key concepts.
• Assist students in navigating financial aid processes by providing guidance on eligibility, required documentation, application steps, and important deadlines to ensure they understand and successfully complete financial aid requirements.
• Support students receiving ADA accommodations by assisting them with usage of appropriate assistive technology tools and equipment, using these resources with coursework.
• Utilize a variety of software platforms to track progress, document interactions, monitor academic performance, and support data-informed decision-making for individualized student outreach.
• Provide necessary referrals to HCTC and community resources for assistance with non-academic barriers.
• Work collaboratively as a team to best serve students’ needs.
• Organize and facilitate academic, social, community, and cultural enrichment events for student participants.
• Co-lead off-campus events such as educational enrichment trips to 4-year universities and colleges.
• Assist students with college transfer to a 4-year institution.
• Perform outreach to potential students to assess eligibility and facilitate enrollment.
• Other duties as assigned.
