Job Summary
Hazard Community and Technical College is accepting applications for the Student Support Specialist I (Tutor) position. This position is responsible for working with students to provide tutoring services in math and a variety of other courses, that reinforce key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom, especially those students with accommodations. This position is responsible for delivering Tutoring and academic advising services that promote student persistence and academic achievement, maintaining accurate and ongoing student records and data, and supporting the fulfillment of HCTC Student Support Services grant objectives. This position is grant funded.

Duties:
• Provide students with supplemental academic support by teaching skills that enhance performance, including effective study strategies, note-taking techniques, and approaches to answering test questions for math and other coursework.
• Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks to reinforce key concepts.
• Emphasize support for skills, concepts, and the use of specific technologies for students with ADA accommodations by assisting them in accessing appropriate assistive technology tools and equipment and providing guidance on how to use these resources effectively in the classroom.
• Provide tutoring services at HCTC locations, through various modes (on campus or online), and at various times (day, evening, and weekend), as needed.
• Assist students with navigating Blackboard, Peoplesoft Student User Account, and a variety of software platforms relating to academic tasks such as test preparation, assignments and projects, and other academic responsibilities to reinforce key concepts.
• Provide advising support for new/continuing students creating/updating graduation plans.
• Utilize Brainfuse and a variety of software platforms to provide tutoring support, track student progress, document interactions, monitor academic performance, maintain administrative records and statistics for tutoring usage, and inform individualized student outreach through data-driven decision-making.
• Perform outreach to potential students to assess eligibility and facilitate program enrollment as needed.
• Organize and facilitate academic, social, community, and cultural enrichment events for student participants.
• Assist with and/or Co-lead off-campus events such as educational enrichment trips to 4-year universities and colleges.
• Other duties as assigned.
